Quijos RIVER

Level IV

 

It's a fast-flowing river, ideal for rafting and kayaking. It's located in the canton of Quijos, 134 kilometers northeast of Quito, and can be reached by car in approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes.

It rises on the eastern slopes of the Antisana volcano and flows northeast, traversing the Interoceanic Highway, forming a valley that encompasses the jurisdictions of the cantons of Quijos and El Chaco. From there, it takes the name Coca River (lower course) and finally flows into the Napo River. It flows at an average altitude of 1,963 meters above sea level, with a temperature of 16°C and rainfall of 2,500 mm3.

It's the main river in the area, a mountain river with many rapids and waterfalls along its course. Its basin is made up of numerous rivers, 11 of which are the main ones, and it has a length of 44.5 km.

This river has a category IV (Difficult) for rafting, with this level classified as demanding, ideal for adventurers who want a little more adrenaline in this fun experience.
