INGAPIRCA INCA RUINS
&
GUALACEO – CHORDELEG TOWNS
Located in the Cañar province south of the Ecuadorian Andes, at 3160 meters above sea level and with a unique natural landscape are Las Ruinas de Ingapirca, which is the best preserved and most important Inca archaeological site in Ecuador.
Ingapirca is a Kichwa word that means 'wall or wall of the Inca', nestled in a cold climate basin with winds that run through the southern mountain range of Ecuador.
A symbol of the Inca dominion before the Spanish conquest in America, this entire archaeological complex of four hectares is an spectacular visit for all those who want to know the Qhapaq Ñan (Andean Road System), since this site, in addition to concentrating the Cañari culture (500 AD) was an important ceremonial area, which united various cultures through the Tahuantinsuyo and became, like Macchu Picchu in Cusco, symbols of the power of Inca civilization.
Chordeleg and Gualaceo are towns near the city of Cuenca and are known for the production of textiles, for their crafts, such as ceramics, hand embroidery and jewelry. Chordeleg has dozens of jewelry stores in which the wonderful goldsmith work of its inhabitants stands out. They are very interesting places to visit and buy some souvenirs from southern Ecuador.
